LIBRARY DIRECTOR: The Charleston Carnegie Public Library Board is seeking a creative and dynamic leader to become our next director upon our director’s retirement. The successful candidate will plan, direct, and coordinate all library activities and should possess a positive, achievement-oriented attitude. We will select someone with excellent leadership and communications skills, a compelling vision for the library, innovative approaches to organizing and problem solving, strong skills in fostering community relations, knowledge of library trends and technology, willingness to help manage a new facility, and the ability to build a team environment.
INFORMATION: Located in Charleston, IL, a community near Champaign, Decatur and Terre Haute; home of Eastern Illinois University; serves population of 21,000; new 29,000 sq. ft. facility, the pride of the community; collection of 65,000; supported by an annual budget of $850,000-900,000; staff of 12 experienced employees with a strong commitment to service; overseen and assisted by a board of nine dedicated citizens.
APPLICATION: MLS/MLIS required, ALA-accredited school preferred; at least two years of public library experience, director experience preferred; salary from $37,500 DOQ with excellent benefits. The Pontiac Public Library seeks a new library director for a charming, historically rich town situated between Bloomington and Chicago. The library serves a population of 12,000 residents, employs a devoted staff of 10 and oversees an annual budget of $400,000.
We are in search of a candidate possessing the following qualities: * community focused * capable of developing the collection to serve diverse patrons *managerial, organizational and problem-solving skills *goal-oriented * adept at positive and honest communication with staff and board of trustees *well-developed sense of humor
The director is responsible for daily operations including supervision of staff, adult collection development, adult programming, budget oversight, maintenance of the facility and equipment. Highly qualified candidates will have an MLS and supervisory experience; other combinations of education, skills, and abilities will be considered. Starting salary is between $35,000 and $45,000 depending upon qualifications. Benefits include exceptional health insurance (dental and vision), paid vacation, holidays and IMRF.
