Featured website: Keeping the Public Informed: the Administrative Ready Reference
Commonly referred to as the Administrative Ready Reference , this website has been essential tool for Illinois libraries for many years and has recently been updated. When it was first released in 1999, it was considered a valuable support resource for public libraries and trustees. The new 2009 edition includes updates of key resources and introduces a new interactive platform for exchange of information, ideas and practice within the Illinois library community. In addition to the documents (which are available in various file formats for ease of use and adoption in your library) this new version of the Administrative Ready Reference resides within the larger WebJunction Illinois repository of documents and services.
One of the requirements for public libraries to receive a FY2010 Public Library Per Capita Grant from the Illinois State Library is for library staff and trustees to review the Administrative Ready Reference. Libraries that have already reviewed the former ARR as part of the grant process do not need to review the update. Funding fo Keeping the Public Informed: the Administrative Ready Reference was awarded by the Illinois State Library (ISL), a division of the office of Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White, using funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), under the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA). Wilson Select Plus back for 2009/2010
We are pleased to announce the Illinois Library Systems and OCLC have secured pricing information for Wilson Select Plus for 2009/2010. We are also pleased to announce that the pricing structure used last year is still in effect. Illinois Library Systems have arranged very competitive pricing for this highly-valued database. If you would like to purchase access to this database, please see http://www.illinoislibrarysystems.info/si_Wilson.html . The pricing is the most competitive offer available, showing once again that when Illinois libraries work together, we can accomplish more than we could on our own. Interested libraries should complete and sign the agreement prior to September 14, 2009 to ensure access to this resource. If you would like further information, please contact Amanda McKay, Special Projects Coordinator, Illinois Library Systems, at 618.656.3216, ext. 143 or by email at amandamckay@lcls.org. Wilson Select Plus provides online indexing and abstracting of a wide range of high-quality periodicals with all records pointing to full text articles. It is updated weekly and has coverage from 1994 to the present. There are over 1.5 million records from 2,393 sources. We know that for many libraries, the Wilson Select Plus database is the only access patrons have had to full-text articles, making this resource vital to the people of Illinois in meeting their information needs. Illinois Library Systems are membership-based, regional organizations consisting of academic, public, school, and special libraries. Illinois is served by nine multitype Library Systems, each providing services to participating libraries in its region. Statewide, over 2,200 libraries of all types and sizes are members of Library Systems. Funding for Illinois Library Systems is provided through the Illinois State Library and the Secretary of State with funds appropriated by the Illinois General Assembly.
Featured site: MLS Public Core Reference List
Wondering how to update your reference collection and unsure of what can go and what should stay? Visit the MLS Public Core Reference List. The Metropolitan Library System (MLS) has been hosting this core list of reference materials for many years. MLS used to update it periodically but now that it is no longer primarily a print document, updates continue on a section by section basis. You can view the recommended resources, the list by section, and a list of “must haves” for every public library collection. The list is presented in .PDF format for all the documents so that users are able to access and print just what they need. For other great websites, visits our ALS Delicious Bookmarks.

Looking For a Good Website?
The consulting staff has bookmarked their favorites on Delicious, and they’re available through a “cloud” in the left column of this page!
Delicious is a social bookmarking service that allows users to tag, save, manage and share web pages from a centralized source. There are some great sites on the Internet (and some very bad ones). As librarians, we share information readily and Delicious is an easy way for our members to locate our favorites from any Internet computer. We’ve “tagged” these bookmarks with keywords to make it easier to locate them. We will be spotlighting our favorites in the next months, so be sure to return to this page!
